Jane Kahler

Jane’s career started in the field of commercial art.  She attended the “American School of Commercial Art.  The first art job was at Pollock Paper Co. in the food wrapper art dept.  Later getting into the designing area of embroidery and chenille emblems.  The experience in commercial art and mechanical drawing has been a great help in learning good drawing and perspective in her paintings.

Custom Chenille Embroidery is where Jane worked for 35 years, moving from the artist /designer position to the position of Vice President of Sales.  A few customers were still able to get some of the designing done by Jane, and then finished up in the art dept. by the Corel Draw artist, then digitized and stored on disks for the computer embroidery and chenille machines.  The most need for this product is decorating apparel, such as rodeo jackets, varsity school jackets, sweat shirts, golf shirts and apparel in the advertising specialty industry.  Jane is now retired to be a full time artist.

As Jane’s children were growing older there was the urge to get into more fine art with painting.  Jane has taken many art classes and workshops.  Jane is a member and past President of the Association of Traditional Artists, President of the Associated Creative Artists, member of Texas Area Artists, Irving Art Assoc. and member and Past President of the DeSoto Art League.  Jane has won many awards in all of these organizations.  Two of them were best of show, several first place categories and many other awards.

Jane has painted portraits, still life and animals and even some abstract.  Landscape painting is the most painted subject that Jane does. She is always looking for strong light and dark patterns in her photography.  Jane paints mostly from her photographs, but plein air painting trips is a pleasure that is enjoyed whenever possible.

Jane has painted in acrylic, watercolor, pastel, prismacolor pencils and oil.  The latter, oil painting is the most favored medium Jane selects when painting.  She has a studio in her home in Dallas and exhibit in Artists' Showplace.

Some of the well known artists Jane has had instructions from are Betty Sampson, Victor Armstrong, John Pototschnik, Bruce Peil, Naomi Brotherton, Margaret Kessler, Robert Pummill, Ann Templeton, Betsy Dillard Stroud, Andrew Wages, Darnell Jones, Gay Faulkenberry, Ralph Oberg and others.
